IF YE BE WILLING AND OBEDIENT – Pastor Folami Fawehinmi
Song: when we walk with The Lord
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way,
While we do His good WILL,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey….
Trust and obey…….
The topic before us this morning ladies and gentlemen is to dig deep into this phrase – IF YE BE WILLING AND OBEDIENT, YE SHALL EAT THE GOOD OF THE LAND.
This is a crucial issue here because nobody wants to eat the BAD of the land or the LEFT OVER of the land.
But scriptures say to eat the good portion of the land two things are paramount:
1. Will
2. Obedience
Now, before we go further, let us examine a scripture:
That servant that knows not his masters will shall be beaten with many stripes…..Luke 12:47,48.
So, the issue of KNOWING God’s WILL and also DOING it is of utmost importance to a Christian.
WE WILL COME BACK TO THIS SCRIPTURE WHEN I WILL BE ROUNDING UP.
Let us dig into the issue of KNOWING the will first.
Let us quickly foray into 2 stories that show us how God’s WILL was finally found out.
1. Jesus in the garden of gethsemane – Matthew 26:36-45
2. Paul and his thorn – 2 Corinthians 12:6-10
You would notice that these two giants in the faith got to know God’s will not by praying JUST ONCE. No! Each prayed thrice. Did they pray the fourth time? No. His will was already known. God had spoken. Peace had come.
Jesus prayed thrice on the same issue. Same with Paul UNTIL a VERY CLEAR word was received by them from God.
Even though their requests were not granted, but they knew why and so were not stressed.
The answer is 2 Corinthians 12:9 – “….my grace is SUFFICIENT for thee…”
There was a gladness along the line…hear what Paul finally said . “….. Most gladly would I rather GLORY in my infirmities…..2 Corinthians 12:9b and 10.
Knowing God’s will on an issue my lovely brethren requires earnestness in prolonged prayer on THE SAME ISSUE.
It is this way for EVERY will of God that we must know.
Now the other issue is the DOING of the WILL.
When you KNOW then you DO.
It is in the doing the will that you reap the promise of eating the good of the land.
As we close….
Let us tie it all up.
Luke 12:47,48
Which one is more grievous?
1. If you know God’s will and do it not. You get more stripes.
2. If you don’t know but goofed u will still be beaten, but with few stripes.
Which one is better?
Let us not forget however, that without knowing His will you will not do it. And if you do not do it; though you will be beaten with few stripes YOU WILL NEVER EAT THE GOOD OF THE LAND.
My advice: do all you can to know God’s will for every step of your life which must be in sync with the word of God on the matter at hand.
Then, do it.
I so submit.
Shall we pray?
